At last we are all beginning to see light at the
end of the Covid long, long tunnel. Whilst still taking sensible precautions we
are gradually moving towards a more normal routine. At last I am able to make
an outline plan with friends to have a Launch locally – though not as carefree
as my wonderful launch of “A Child’s War” five years ago. However, the most
important element will be the vocal support of my wonderful “Cairdeas” (Irish
for Friendship) Choir!
Locally there has been great interest in my “Meandering Ideas” book
of poems and led to some surprising and interesting emails and telephone calls.
One was an invitation to be interviewed on our KCLR local radio by John Mckenna
the famous author; wonderful, uplifting experience. He began by reading the last
verse of “Air Raids” –
“Nowadays we need to remember all those things
and say a prayer of thanks for every moment,
for every little joy that comes our way,
for children’s trustful eyes turned towards us,
for bursting buds and shady tree overhead,
for birds’ joyful song and flashing wings
and a good night’s sleep in our own welcome bed.”
Then we discussed that the words might be appropriate for trying to get over
the Covid experience.
Another call was from a young woman whose fellow-worker had my “Child’s War”;
her mother had similar experiences in UK during the war! A worker at our Credit
Union contacted me because her young daughter was reading up on World War II
and wanted her copy signed.
Another surprise was a visit from one of our estate’s Residents Association.
So, in spite of all the limitations of this period, things are moving along in
small, positive steps!!
