Suddenly, unexpectedly I find myself in the foreign land
of blogging – oft-mentioned but Mysterious territory, especially for an
octogenarian.
Apart from business letters, documents and communication, I wandered into
writing late (about 2004). Two of our three daughters and their families had
settled in Ireland so, on retirement, we moved over too. I was born in London
of Irish parents from Westmeath. My Husband Peter RIP (who sadly died last year
after 64 years together) originated from Sussex and, Loving the historic town
of Lewes, was very “taken” with Kilkenny. So, we settled here very happily; we
knew this small but proud CITY has a strikingly beautiful castle and park, and
Rothe house – ancient merchant’s dwelling. We soon Learnt it also boasts
theatre, cinema, an festival and numerous interest groups. A friendly neighbour
persuaded me to join a local writers course – a six weeks from which I never
recovered!! A few of us “attendees” approached our enthusiastic librarian
Catriona who enabled us launch Lough Boy Writers’ Group – a Wonderful mix of
learning, humour and friendship. I developed a hunger which led me to produce/self-publish
my book “A Child’s War” about four years ago. I then dug out some old poems and
caught the bug, leading to what still seems a miracle – Austin Macauley
Publishers accepted my collection entitled “Meandering Ideas” – appropriate as
the topics range from nature to the universe, belief, art, life and death.
